Baker owns and operates Pro Deo Realty based in McKinney and is a licensed Texas real estate broker and top-producing realtor.
With his business partner, he also operates and serves as broker-of-record for Conservative Move, a real estate referral business that specializes in helping conservatives move from high tax and regulation blue states to liberty-loving red states.
Prior to his career in real estate, Baker was a political activist for more than 25 years, working in Congress for members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He served on the staff of then-Representative Mike Pence, Senator Phil Gramm, and Representative Jeb Hensarling. He also served as a senior policy analyst for the House Republican Study Committee.
Baker received his bachelor’s degree in political science, business, and religion from Liberty University. Before returning to Texas in 2011, he also served as the Director of Federal Affairs for Americans for Limited Government.
He lives in McKinney with Melissa, his wife of 23 years, and their three children, Reagan (20), Austin (17), and Lincoln (14). The Bakers home-school their children, and Derek enjoys teaching American government, economics, and chess to high school students at his home-school co-op.
Baker is a sports enthusiast and amateur athlete, having competed in more than 100 5k and 10k races and more than a dozen marathons and triathlons.
Baker grew up in Sherman, Texas and is an 8th-generation Texan. The Bakers attend Crosspoint Church in McKinney, where Derek teaches in the adult ministries.
